A terrorist met his waterloo
Only seven hours after this newspaper published a public service report requesting action against a known criminal terrorising Ikot Ambang village in Uyo Capital City, members of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Squad killed Wisdom, who was responsible for the majority of the crimes.
Mr. Wisdom, a dreaded robber who operated in broad daylight like the notorious Anini, was said to have gone on a robbery spree in Itak, a community near Ikot Ambang when he met his waterloo.
A source who pleaded not to be named because of safety concerns said Wisdom had appeared in Itak and was going about dispossessing people of valuables at about 3pm.
“He was robbing people in the area when someone alerted the IGP squad and the arrived the area. Wisdom exchanged gunfire with the team but he was overpowered and killed while he attempted to escape.
“Many thought he was going to disappear but it seems the IGP team neutralised whatever made his disappear and that is why it was easy for them to bring him down,” the highly elated source told GuardPost.
This morning, this newspaper published the report “Who will rescue Ikot Ambang from criminals,” highlighting the atrocities committed by Wisdom and his former accomplice, Malachy, who was earlier killed by a mob.
Before he reappeared today, Wisdom had on July 4, gone berserk, robbing POS operators while shooting sporadically.
Wisdom’s body on public display
During the one-man operation, he came face-to-face with Jessica, a middle-aged lady who had gone to withdraw money from a nearby POS operator.
Recounting what happened, a witness, who pleaded not to be named said, “On meeting the lady (Jessie), Wisdom snatched her handbag containing cash and other valuables. He didn’t stop there, he shot at her several times and disappeared leaving the woman helpless and bleeding profusely.”
Wild jubilation on the streets
Not long after the police succeeded in taking down one man who had terrorized them for years, the people of Ikak, Ikot Ambang and the adjoining communities poured out to the streets in wild jubilation over the uncommon feat.

Taxi drivers, bus drivers, commercial motorcycle riders and villagers ignited a carnival mode as they joined a procession that was led by a Mercedes Benz car, which had the criminal’s lifeless body on top of it.
People screamed and cried out of joy and many commended the police for their prompt response to a distress call sent to them by a member of the community.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko MacDon could not be reached as calls to his verified phone number would not connect.
