Femi Kayode under fire for US school shooting tweet

Femi Fani-Kayode, Nigeria’s former aviation minister, has come under fire for a tweet criticizing the response to the Texas school shooting in the United States.

Nineteen young children and two adults were killed in a shooting at a primary school in South Texas.

The BBC reported that the gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School – which teaches children aged seven to 10 – in the city of Uvalde before he was killed by law enforcement.

The 18-year-old suspect had a handgun, an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and high-capacity magazines, investigators say.

The teenager is suspected of shooting his grandmother before the rampage and local media report he may have been a high school student in the area.

But Mr. Fani-Kayode got more than he bargained for as social media users mocked and referred to him as a turncoat and a political jobber.

Instead of minding his business, we had tweeted, “He kills his grandmother. Drives off. Crashed his car. Shoots at people outside the premises of the school for 12 minutes. Enters school unchallenged through an unlocked door. Stays there for one hour.

Kills 19 kids and two teachers before police challenge and kill him. It is either the police were grossly incompetent or there is a lot more to this whole mess than meets the eye.”

Not long after the tweet dropped, a user with the handle @prime_of_aces was the first to respond with, “I don’t know why you’re more interested in what happens in the US and Nigeria even though your main man Yahaya Bello is contesting for president, so you be minister of finance or CBN governor. You too dey lose focus.”

Another user, @CC_okoro added, “He has joined the APC, which government is there to criticise again. His focus has shifted to US.”

Nwa Ebonyi @MishaelObasi tweeted, “Oga how GYB? E don chase you with oraimo cord? Me: Always have something doing outside politics. Now they have left you (laughter emojis)”

@cr7hackie responded, “Lmao, do you know that those kidnapped from the train are still in the forest? Just a reminder.”

@BElakechie said, “It will surprise you to know that what elementary school pupils face in this country is equivalent to this atrocity. Their future is being murdered.

@Vicymario202 tweeted, Oga how is the bridge-bulling going? I hope work is in progress.

@Iamluchi64 was downright abusive, “Mr. Confused fellow, since you joined APC, you’ve been calm. Have they humbled you> I’m sure you must be regretting it by now? Which party would accept you now? Maybe Speed Darlington’s party.”

@Skyline tweeted, “Solve your own problem before looking for people’s own problems to talk about.
